In the 1891 Census the house which is now Porch House in Castle Street, Thornbury was divided into two households.  Living in the second household next to Thomas Cox Smith and his family were Rosalind Anderson a 29 year old widow and her children Muriel aged 8 and Ruth aged 5.  Also living in that household was Rosalind's unmarried sister, Constance Searle.

Rosalind and Constance were  the daughters of William Archibald Searle, a major general of Her Majesty's Indian Staff Corps.  The girls were both born in India.  In 1871 they and their siblings were living with their tutor and his wife in Hampstead.  It was quite an extensive family; George Searle aged 16, Rosa Searle aged 15, Constance aged 12, Alfred aged 11, Richard aged 9, Arnold aged 8 and Darvill aged 5.  All the Searle children except Darvill who was born in London were born in India.  By 1881 Constance was living with her father George in Canon place in Brighton.

Rosalind Susan Searle married William Danson Anderson who was born in 1830 on 15th November 1881 in Bayswater.  William was a widower aged 51.  He was a captain of the Peninsular and Oriental Service from St Paul's parish  in Covent Garden and he was the son of William Hedley Anderson a merchant.  They had two daughters.  Muriel Rosalind Anderson was baptised on 28th March 1883 in Streatham.  Ruth was born on 19th April on 1886  in Gypsy Hill in Christ Church Lambeth.  William died in 1887 in Clutton Somerset.  By 1901 Constance was boarding in London near Paddington in Lancaster Gate and Rosalind and her daughters had moved to Bath.
